Termites are social insects and are divided into several castes. They live in the ground or in wood, avoiding light and wind. They feed on decaying wet wood inside the wood of the tree, on the trunk or branches, and secondarily on dry grasses, humus or fungi. Its presence has been observed in the trunks of old avocado trees.
Termites, through their feeding activity, decompose the wood resulting in the easy detachment of branches by strong air currents or the weight of the fruit.
It is not advisable to prune renewal pruning - stump pruning in old trees, as large diameter cuts are created, but also to avoid 90° cuts as they retain water, creating optimal conditions (mainly moisture) for the growth of these insects.
